Dylon Machine Dye Instructions

1. FABRIC TYPE

• Cotton, linen & viscose will dye to full shade.

• Wool, silk, polyester/cotton & polyester/viscose mixes (aka 'polyester mixes') will dye to lighter shade.

• Do not dye pure polyester, acrylic, nylon & fabric with special finishes.

2. FABRIC AMOUNT

• One pack dyes up to 250g fabric (e.g. shirt) to full shade or larger amounts to lighter shade.

3. ORIGINAL FABRIC COLOUR

• Colour mixing rules apply, e.g. blue dye on red fabric gives purple.

DIRECTIONS

• IN ADDITION TO THE DYE, YOU WILL NEED:

250g of salt, rubber gloves, mixing spoon you don't care about, bowl, and stainless steel sink/plastic tub.

  1. Weigh dry fabric to ensure you have sufficient dye.

 2. Wash fabric thoroughly, even if new, to remove stains/finishes/softeners which may not be visible to the eye.

 3. Remove the damp fabric from the machine and set it aside. Do not dry the damp fabric.

 4. Wearing rubber gloves, empty full contents of pack(s) into a bowl.

Dissolve dye in 500ml warm water.

 5. Fill stainless steel sink/plastic tub with approx 6 litres of warm water (40°C).

 6. Stir in 250g (5tbsp) of salt.

 7. Add the dissolved dye & stir well.

 8. Submerge your pre-washed and still damp fabric completely in water.

 9. Stir for 15mins, then stir regularly for 45mins.

10. Rinse fabric in cold water. Wash in warm water and dry away from direct heat & sunlight.

11. After dyeing, wash separately for first few washes to remove any excess dye.
